As a 60 year old with osteoarthritis in one knee, I was reluctant to try Farm Box. A knee replacement is in my future and I gained weight after my injury. Any activity was painful; sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs. There was no end to the pain, swelling and limping. I could not imagine how I could fit in at Farm Box. A few friends assured me I could do it and told me people modify the workouts, and it's ok. I finally got the courage to message Steph. We talked, she promised me I could do it and she inspired me to try.. We discussed modifications for my injury and I knew it was now or never.
I walked through the door, found a few familiar faces and many more friendly ones. I was welcomed by everyone and the coaches worked with me for the first few sessions to help me with the exercises, the modifications and the proper form. I have gone 3 times a week since that first day. I do everything at my level, and I am always supported and encouraged by the coaches and the members. Every few weeks my level advances. This is a strong and supportive group of women. Everyone works together, everyone encourages each other and everyone celebrates success and milestones.
I participated in a nutrition challenge which focuses on health, clean eating and long-term success. This was a new mindset compared to the way I approached weight loss in the past. The challenge is a system for life not a short-term fad diet that rarely works. I actually won the most improved in the challenge and nobody was more surprised than me!
I never thought I would get out of the 'rocking chair' with my knee. I felt like I was stuck and I didn't believe it would get better. My knee still has osteoarthritis, I still need a knee replacement in few years, but I fit in my favorite ski pants for the first time in a few years, I walk without a limp, my knee doesn't hurt, I have lost weight, gained muscle and I am down 2 clothing sizes in 4 months. I am no longer self-conscious about how I look and I like who I see in the mirror for the first time in a bit. I no longer care who sees my 'before' picture. She is not me anymore.
Farm Box works. Amazing coaching, a group of women who want to be a community of support, opportunities to grow physically and mentally, extra challenges with HYROX training, nutrition challenges, offerings for yoga, pilates, barre classes and more. Kids challenges and pop up kids classes, family days, days for you to bring a man (spouse, boyfriend, friend) and show them up with your ability to do things many of them can't. The list continues to grow. The only thing missing from Farm Box is you ♥
